Today started with a bunch of housewifey stuff (get chili in crockpot, tidy house, start laundry, clean bathroom). Then there was mom stuff (pack gym bag, pack diaper bag, load all of it, plus stroller, plus baby in van). Work out at gym – run only since I needed to save time to shower after workout as we were going to meet Aidan. I didn’t want Aidan to be all like “Dude, you are stinking up my neighborhood”. Realize post shower that I forgot hairbrush. Fingercomb and blow dry bangs, then throw the back in a certifiably messy ponytail. Aidan is kind enough not to notice/comment. She also makes good grilled cheese sandwiches and agrees that grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup are a legally married food couple and that grilled cheese should never cheat with other soup flavours. I like Aidan.
Post lunch, we head to the baby group in her area for a super dumbed down, overly understanding nurse-led discussion about introducing solids. Resisted temptation to ask about serving babies ground up Happy Meals. They provided a few samples of home made baby food and the equivalent jarred stuff. The jarred stuff is horrible.
Completely unpalatable. Reaffirmed my decision to make my own baby food (ie: grind up what we’re already having for dinner), but I did learn a fair bit about what to introduce first (iron-rich foods). Aidan and I part listen, part make jokes about introducing tequila as a first food, and part watch our babies being super cute.
Baby Derek and Baby Matthew have finally realized the other baby exists. They are either in deep baby love or have become BFF. I’m fine with either and so is Aidan. Lots of staring deep into each others eyes and chewing on each others hands. Super cute.
Our original plan was to walk around Steveston, but the rain was like “HI I AM HERE TO RUIN ALL PLANS” so we walked around the mall for a while. Bought some hand soap for the bathroom and kitchen and a superman onesie. Excellent buys. Home for dinner and baby bed time (aside: tonight is the second night he’s sleeping in a sleep sack instead of swaddled. He was a rock star last night. Fingers crossed that today is more of the same!)
I have to say, I am really enjoying these baby dates with Aidan. A total highlight of my week.
