Great Reasons to Have a Christmas Baby

On message boards & in real life, I hear people talk all the time about wanting to time conception to ensure they don’t have a Christmas baby. I’m all for whatever the hell people want to do, but having had a December baby, I’d like to share some AWESOME reasons to have a baby in December.

1. A December baby means that (providing you go full term), your second trimester of pregnancy falls over the summer. The second trimester is, for most women, the best part of pregnancy. Morning sickness is over, and you’re not so pregnant that moving is ridiculous.

2. There are a more stat holidays around Christmas than any other time of year. That means your spouse gets more days at home with you without having to use up vacation days.

3. When you’re all exhausted and postpartum, there is delicious food everywhere.

4. Between Christmas prep and parties, people are SUPER busy in December, which means you won’t have as many people wanting to pop in for hours. I love people, but sleep is priority in the first weeks.

5. When tax time comes around the next year, you get to claim a dependent you only had for 3 weeks.

6. By the time the next summer rolls around, life is starting to settle into a routine, and you can enjoy the beautiful sun. :)

Absolutely agree…..Danielle was born December 4th, and it was fantastic for all the reasons you stated. (She is not so happy with it tho, getting all her presents in one month!)

My siblings and I were all born in winter months (December, January and February), and my older sister was born 4 days before Christmas. I know some people don’t like it, but it’s never been a big deal to me, and I’ve always been used to the winter months being our “fun” months because there are lots of holidays and birthdays and food and celebrations. It just feels right, you know? In our family January will be the month of birthdays, with Claire’s birthday coming not even 2 weeks after Christmas, but I actually prefer it like that.

Agreed! All of my babies are spring/summer (March, April, June), which means it’s taken me until at least fall to get into a really good routine, and then, my oldest goes back to school and mucks it all up again. We never really get into a good flow. The only plus side is all their birthdays are close together, and then there’s a nice gap to save up for Christmas.

You make some great points :) I didn’t really care when I’d have a baby. I wish I wasn’t so pregnant during summer, but I had an inside job so it wasn’t terrible.
