I was supposed to write a post three days ago about how blah blah blah time goes by so fast and can you believe my baby is 9 months old? Which is cliche but also very true.
But then I got hooked on dogshaming. Seriously funny shit. I mean this:
Anyway, we went for Derek’s 9 month appointment yesterday. He continues to be a giant 97%+ baby at 77cm (30inches) long and 11.06 kg (24 lbs). He’s blown through all of his milestones like a baby champ, and there are no concerns. Also, he loves our doctor. Good taste Derek. I love her too. She’s the best.
He’s trying to walk now. He has a fancy pants toy walker, but it sits in a corner collecting dust as he’d much rather push his high chair around, then holler for me to fix it when it gets stuck in a corner. All. Day. Long. Except for when he’s busy crawling around the house with his blocks, hiding them in weird places like laundry baskets and the tupperware cupboard. Babies are weird.
He is starting to talk a bit, mostly just copying whatever we’re saying. He won’t do it on command though – just randomly after we say something, he’ll repeat the last word. So far, he’s said good, shoe, zip, door, squawk, boo, and a couple more that I’m forgetting. And just today he said “up” completely unprompted when I was getting him out of his crib after his nap. I think he’s in a burst of communication development right now, and we’ll likely have a lot more words coming!
Mostly though, he’s just my fun, cuddly little guy.
In other news, we bought a treadmill. I’ve walk/jogged on it twice during naps. Feels nice to get a bit of a workout in! And I THINK (but we’re still working out the details) that I will most likely be starting a degree through distance education. Stoked for that one – it really opens up the job market for me. Also a good way to keep my brain going while I’m at home with baby.
Tomorrow, we’re meeting Aidan for a movie/baby date. I am so glad she got knocked up right after me – she’s become a very good friend, and I hope our little dudes are friends for a long time
